Our Work.

The Charter Project Africa is a three-year project funded by the European Union (EU) and German Cooperation (GIZ) focusing on the promotion of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), the policy document for advancing democratic governance in African Union (AU) member states. The project that started in 2021 and ending in 2024 aims to promote the usage of civic technologies (Civic Tech) to amplify citizen voices by distributing grants and technical advisory services to civic initiatives pursuing democracy in 11 countries, including Benin, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia. The project is implemented by the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) and a consortium of partners including AfricTivistes, Code for Africa (CfA), the Goree Institute and Democracy Works Foundation (DWF) and European Center for Development Policy Management (ECDPM). With the project coming to an end, PIMA working with Policy Impact Lab (PIL) have been contracted to conduct the final evaluation of the Charter Project Africa. The Team Lead for the project is Florence M. Nyangara of PIMA and Elma Paulauskaite of PIL is the Project Manager. The other evaluation members include PIL’s Ieva Giedraityte who is an expert in governance and civic engagement and Lara Bezzina who is an expert in CSO capacity strengthening and Reuben O. Marwanga of PIMA who is the Civic Tech expert.
